DR MONICA MICHEL, Founder and President
Dr. Monica Michel obtained her medical degree in 2009 and began postgraduate training in general surgery before transitioning into family and aesthetic medicine in 2011. She went on to complete her family practice residency at Akron General Hospital, followed by advanced training in aesthetic medicine through the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine. This path allowed her to combine two long-standing passions: medicine and beauty.
Throughout her training and clinical experience, Dr. Monica Michel observed how high-quality outcomes positively influence both the physical and emotional well-being of patients. These experiences reinforced her belief that success in advanced medical aesthetics requires a deep understanding of human anatomy alongside a thoughtful awareness of each patient’s individual goals and perspective. She is deeply committed to approaching aesthetic care at SOMA MD with compassion and integrity, focusing only on treatments she is expertly trained to provide and delivering results that are both refined and natural.
DR. MARIA CHUQUER
Dr. Maria Chuquer is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada in Anesthesiology, with advanced certifications in Medical Aesthetics, Cosmetic Dermatology, and Weight Management.
Academically, she serves as an Assistant Professor at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary.
KAREN TAN, RN and CLINIC MANAGER
Karen Tan is a registered nurse, certified nurse injector, and the clinic manager at SOMA MD. As one of the original members of the SOMA team, she has been part of the clinic’s journey since its opening in October 2019 and continues to play an integral role in its growth and success.
A career at SOMA MD began with performing PRP and a range of aesthetic treatments, while deepening her expertise through hands-on training alongside Dr. Monica Michel and ongoing education through the SOMA Academy. Over the past six years, Karen’s dedication to patient care, clinical excellence, and professional development has led her to become the clinic’s primary consultant and a trusted nurse injector.
Karen collaborates closely with Dr. Monica Michel while supporting both patients and the SOMA MD team. She brings a calm, knowledgeable presence to the clinic and is deeply committed to maintaining the quality, consistency, and patient-centered care that SOMA MD is known for.

DR MONICA MICHEL, Founder and President
Dr. Monica Michel obtained her Medical Degree in 2009 and began postgraduate medical training in general surgery. In 2011, she decided to transition into family and aesthetic medicine. Subsequently, she completed a family practice residency at Akron General Hospital and training in aesthetic medicine at the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine. Dr. Monica Michel was inspired to pursue training in aesthetic medicine because it merges her passion for medicine and for beauty.
Dr. Monica Michel noticed that throughout the years of training, producing good outcomes contributed to patients’ physical and emotional well-being. She felt that to be successful in advanced medical aesthetics, one needed to take the time to understand the patient’s psyche and have a profound knowledge of human anatomy. Dr. Monica Michel feels passionate about approaching an aesthetic patient with compassion and integrity, doing only what we are trained well to do, and producing beautiful outcomes.

From initially performing PRP and other aesthetic treatments, throughout the past six years she has trained by assisting Dr. Michel and attending the SOMA Academy. Karen has grown to become the primary consultant, a certified nurse injector, working alongside Dr. Monica Michel and managing the SOMA MD team and clinic.
